Live String Music for Weddings & Events

Stringhouse Ensemble is a Melbourne-based collective of exceptional string musicians, founded by Sandra, a highly regarded freelance violist performing with leading orchestras including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria. With a foundation in orchestral performance at the highest level, Stringhouse brings a sense of artistry, intention and quiet confidence to the world of weddings and private events.

Every detail of Stringhouse is considered. From the calibre of musicians we work with to the way each performance is shaped, our approach is grounded in precision, musical sensitivity and refined presentation. We collaborate exclusively with professional players who share a deep commitment to their craft, resulting in performances that feel cohesive, expressive and effortlessly polished.

Our work is centred around creating atmosphere. Whether it’s the anticipation of a ceremony, the energy of a celebration, or the understated elegance of a reception, we tailor each ensemble to suit the space and the moment. From intimate duos to full string quartets, the scale and composition of the group is carefully curated to complement the overall aesthetic of the event.

While our training is classical, our repertoire is expansive and thoughtfully selected. Alongside timeless works, we perform contemporary music, film, pop, hymns, and cultural selections, many of which are arranged in-house to ensure they translate beautifully for strings. The result is a sound that feels both familiar and elevated, curated to represent the vision of our clients.

We place equal importance on the experience behind the scenes. Communication is clear and considered, planning is seamless, and every element is approached with professionalism and care. A zoom meeting is encouraged to allows our clients to feel confident that the music will not only be beautifully performed but delivered with consistency and ease according to their vision.

For those who value detail, atmosphere and a modern approach to live music, Stringhouse Ensemble offers a considered and beautifully curated experience.

What is a string duo?
A string duo typically features two musicians—most commonly violin and cello, or two violins. It offers a beautifully intimate sound, ideal for smaller ceremonies, elopements or venues where a lighter musical presence is preferred. A duo creates a refined atmosphere while remaining subtle and unobtrusive.

What is a string trio?
A string trio usually consists of violin, viola and cello. With the addition of a third instrument, the sound becomes fuller and more textured, allowing for greater depth and musical layering. A trio is a popular choice for weddings, as it balances elegance and presence without overwhelming the space.

What is a string quartet?
A string quartet includes two violins, a viola and a cello. This is the most complete and traditional string ensemble, offering a rich, balanced and immersive sound. With four parts, the music feels expansive and detailed, perfect for larger ceremonies, sophisticated receptions or venues where you want the music to make a strong, lasting impression.

Do you require amplification?
No—our string ensembles are fully acoustic and do not require amplification for most settings. String instruments naturally project beautifully, making them ideal for ceremonies and events where a refined, organic sound is preferred.

What do you require for setup?
Our setup is intentionally simple and unobtrusive. We bring everything needed for the performance, so there’s very little required on your end.

All we ask is for armless chairs for each musician and a suitable performance space. For outdoor settings, a shaded area protected from direct sunlight, heat and rain is essential to ensure both the instruments and musicians are well cared for.Beyond that, we take care of the rest, allowing the music to integrate seamlessly into your day.

For larger spaces or outdoor venues, amplification can be arranged if needed to ensure clarity and presence, but in many cases, it isn’t necessary. We’re always happy to advise based on your venue and overall setting.
