Lucy was never one of those girls who sat around dreaming about her wedding day. She didn’t have a pinterest board, or a clear vision of what she wanted – that is until James proposed.
So excited at the prospect of spending the rest of her life with her person, it also meant that more than a few decisions needed to be made about how their special day would play out. The enchanting gardens of Merribee House was the first item ticked off the list. An easy choice, as Tom grew up on the south coast of New South Wales, it already felt like a very special place to them both. On a chilly May evening, the gardens glowed with the warmth of the love from the people Lucy and James love the most.
What resulted after a lot of thoughtful planning, was an incredibly heartfelt, whimsical – and above all, fun – wedding day with a hundred highlights, a thousand laughs and a million memories no one lucky enough to attend is likely to forget.
THE PROPOSAL //
We were staying in Pilanesberg National Park at a lovely lodge called Bakabung Bush Retreat in November 2019. We had been over in South Africa for another friends wedding and were travelling with them. We were all sitting by the pool before we had to go get ready to go on a night safari. James suggested we go get ready for the safari and I reluctantly dragged my feet as felt there was time for another cocktail! Little did I know what his plan was. We got back to our room and I was about to get into the shower and James shouted for me from the balcony. He said ‘quick come there are monkeys out here’, I quickly ran outside and there he was on one knee. We then went on our night safari and were treated to a meal under the stars to celebrate and getting to see lions cross our path.
The Most Memorable Moment //
THE VISION //
James and I love to ski and would try to go to Japan every year. We would have loved to have gotten married on the ski slopes of Japan but that proved too difficult. We then settled on a restaurant called Legato in Shibuya for January 2021. Being in Japan we would then be in the middle for my family from the UK to come and James family from Australia to come. Unfortunately, covid had other plans.
YOUR DAY IN YOUR WORDS //
After two failed wedding attempts, Japan and then Sydney we had no choice but to elope in Western Australia. We moved to Perth in 2016 and left behind friends and family in Sydney so our wedding guests consisted of 4 friends we had made in Perth. We got married up in a place called El Questro just outside of Kununurra in Northern Western Australia.Â
From our planned winter snowy wedding to a boiling desert Australia. We had our elopement in El Questro Homestead, an exclusive hotel on the cliff edge over looking the Chamberlain Gorge. We had a celebrant, our four friends and our nearest and dearest on zoom sharing the moment we said we do.
After the formalities we went for an explore around the area to a breathtaking lookout called pigeon hole look out where we had a few drinks and photos before returning to the homestead for drinks and dinner. The lovely hotel staff had set up a table on the cliff edge by the pool where the six of us had dinner and endless drinks. We danced, sang and talked all night. Family who couldn’t be there had made us a video which we also watched at the end of the night.
