Picking out your wedding date involves a multitude of factors – like tossing up venue and photographer availabilities, figuring out what doesn’t clash with your family’s calendar and trying to line up your wedding with an inevitable honeymoon to Positano straight after.

Because you really have a lot on your plate with the above, we thought we’d put together a hand list of dates to just slice straight off your ‘potential wedding date’ calendar. This is because these dates are either public holidays (read: extra costs for all your bookings and your guests), or simply do not exist.

So here it is, the wedding dates to avoid for the next two years. You’re welcome.

Awkward Days

Mother’s Day

Always falling on a Sunday, this day won’t get a second look from couples looking to book Saturday nuptials, but if you are tossing up this date be sure your that your mums are okay sharing this weekend with your wedding. And ask yourself: Do you want your anniversary to fall on the same weekend as Mother’s Day if or when you eventually become a mum yourself?

New Year’s Eve

Though this isn’t a public holiday, people tend to make rather large plans for NYE quite far in advance. So let your bridal party and other wedding guests know as far in advance as possible – and remind them all to book their accommodation as early as they can!

Father’s Day

Also always on a Sunday, Father’s Day should be cross checked as an option with the dads in your life. And grooms, make sure you’re okay with celebrating your anniversary the same weekend as Father’s Day if you decide to have kids.

Days That Literally Don’t Exist

Traditionally, Greeks and Romans thought starting any new life event — from getting married to baptising a child — in a leap year would bring bad luck. While we wouldn’t write off the whole year, we really, really recommend skipping these days as they literally don’t exist. Which means a painful amount of planning for no ~actual~ wedding day.
