There’s no doubt about it, every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day. That’s a given. But did you know that it’s often a little more involved than just choosing a make-up artist and showing them a photo of what you like?

If you want to ensure you look your absolute best on your Big Day, there are a few tips you need to know about – so that you don’t spend the day regretting your choices! Put your best foot forward by doing your research and making sure you’re clear about what you want before your wedding day.

1. Make sure you choose a hair and makeup artist who specialises in bridal beauty.

By choosing a hair and makeup artist that specializes in bridal beauty, you’re ensuring that your look will have the stamina and durability to last the length of your wedding day. Bridal makeup is a fine art as the makeup has to look as good in person as it does in photos. Bridal hairstyling is a particular skill as the style has to last the whole day and be sweat, wind and touch proof! While the work the artist does on the day is extremely important, the communication in the lead up to the wedding is just as important. Working with a disorganised artist can lead to stressful wedding planning. In comes Tonic Agency – Tonic Agency represents only the most qualified and sought after hair and makeup artists. When you book with Tonic Agency, you’re guaranteed an easy experience from enquiry, to planning the big day, to the actual wedding day when the artists leaves you looking like the most beautiful possible version of yourself. By going directly to Tonic Agency, you skip having to reach out to different artists, waiting for replies to determine their availability and fee, instead, all of the artists and their work is brought directly to you! And isn’t that a Godsend when you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the wedding decisions you have to make?!

2. Book a trial, or two!

For something as important as your wedding day, it’s imperative to ensure that both you and your hair and make-up artists are on the same page. “Natural” means something different to every person so having a trial means there is nothing to worry about on the day. A trial lets you work through your ideas, and determine if anything needs to be tweaked for the wedding day. This is also a great way to trial the longevity of the products used, and get an insight into how your hair and makeup will look by the end of the night.

3. Come to your trial prepared

It’s a good idea to come to your hair and/or make-up trial as prepared as possible. This means coming with photos of your dress, and ideas for your hair and makeup. Try and choose pictures of hair and makeup that look similar to you. For example, if you have dark hair, show pictures of dark hairstyles. If you have fair skin, showing a picture of Beyonce just isn’t a realistic goal. Choosing references that look similar to yourself will help give you a realistic idea of what is achievable. If you plan to have a spray tan for the wedding, have one for the trial too. Ensure you prepare your hair the way the artist needs your hair, as most artists will want you to come with clean and dry hair, but always ask. If you have hair extensions, bring them to the trial. If you don’t have them, you may need to purchase them before the wedding and your stylist will be able to suggest which ones to get.

You can also share with your artist your regular products so they understand what you normally do, and the looks that make you feel the most beautiful. Don’t be afraid to share what are your best features, and if you have photos of yourself when you felt your best, or if there is anything particular you don’t like with makeup. This way the artist can make you look like your best version of yourself. Remember, makeup artists aren’t mind readers, so the more info you can share with your artist, the more likely they will be able to achieve your goal.

The team at Tonic Agency are pros at creating a fun and stress-free experience for bridal parties, and ensure they work with each person to bring their vision to life. Experienced hair and make-up artists, like those at Tonic Agency, are clued up on which products are wedding-fit. As in, they know which products will last the whole day, look great on camera, and keep you looking flawless all night long.

4. Order and time matters

When you are organizing your hair and makeup, the order of the day is important. Tonic Agency will provide you with a schedule for the morning so there is no chaos or confusion as to who is due in the makeup chair and when. Tonic suggests the bride is done second last. That way the bride is done towards the end, but not last just in case there is a last minute rush to the finish line, the bride is already done and ready to go.

Ask your artist how long they need per service, and you can work out the start time by working backwards from when you need to be ready. Usually the photographer will arrive about an hour/hour and a half before the bride needs to leave home or the hotel, and Tonic Agency suggests finishing hair and makeup around the same time as the photographers will arrive. This way you can get photos of the final touch ups, but everyone is ready for photos. The benefit of going with artists from Tonic Agency, is that they are clued up on preferable timings in the lead-up to a wedding, making for a stress free morning!
