Top Tips to Find the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Type in 2024

Bride trying out a wedding dress

The key to finding the perfect wedding dress for your body type is first identifying the shapes that truly flatter your body type.

There are a plethora of different styles and cuts of wedding dress, the challenge is more so identifying the best cut and silhouette to suit your unique body shape and style. The key is focusing on your best features and accentuating these with a style that leaves you feeling confident. There are many rules of thumb when it comes to dress shopping, Empire Lines tend to elongate those with shorter legs, while a drop waist will compensate for a short torso. A v-neckline will slim and flatter a bigger bust, while a gathered or detailed bust will suit a flatter chest, horizontal lines will widen the body and vertical lines will elongate it.

PETITE

Simplicity is key for the petite bride, be it figure forming crepe or floaty silk chiffon. Championing minimalism at its finest, a plunging v-neckline will draw the eye upward, elongating your frame, while an empire waist creates the illusion of longer legs. Steering clear of three dimensional embellishments or lace appliqué, instead opting for a flat all over lace will ensure your petite frame does not get overwhelmed. A one shoulder atop a trumpet silhouette is also an incredibly flattering fit, lengthening from the torso all the way through the skirt. Alternatively opt for a sheer overlay atop of nude body suit, a sophisticate and contemporary look for the bride with undeniable style.

BUSTY

While a squared neckline is flattering on most, its the perfect amount of coverage for the well endowed bride. Strapless is generally avoided by those with a biggest bust, however when chosen wisely can be the most flattering option. Opting for an off the shoulder style or one shoulder detail atop a straight bodice neckline is perfect for a bigger bust, adding that little bit of added security. Strategically opting for a designer that specialises in couture techniques will allow enough structure to feel secure in the bodice, ensuring that you feel comfortable from the ceremony right through to the reception dance floor. If you’re drawn to a v-neckline, balancing the silhouette with a fuller skirt will be most flattering for the figure. Check out our list of best wedding dresses for big boobs…

From off the shoulder, to v-neck and long sleeved, the key to finding the perfect look for a curvier bride is embracing your shape with a figure hugging silhouette.
